The Community Education Foundation, a501(c) 3 organization, was founded in 1991 on the premise of opening Kids & Company, our before and after school program located in the Council Bluffs Schools. Since then the organization has grown to encompass the Council Bluffs Alumni Association, STARS Scholarship Program sponsored by the Iowa West Foundation, Classroom Grants, Teacher and Staff Appreciation, & Gear Up Students needy student fund. The Community Education Foundation also sponsors the Council Bluffs Community School District's Welcome Back Kick Off, and much more. In partnership with the Council Bluffs Community Schools, the Community Education Foundation has generated support for projects that would not otherwise be possible to directly benefit students, staff and families of the district.

Welcome to CEF's New Executive Director,

Fernando "Butch" Lecuona

   Butch Lecuona comes to the Community Education Foundation from Omaha, Nebraska. He most recently held the position of Deputy Assistant to Omaha's Mayor, Mike Fahey. Prior to that he served as Nebraska's Labor Commissioner and spent many previous years with the Nebraska Workforce Development Department of Labor.

   Butch and his wife, Diane, have 3 grown children and 6 grandchildren who they love spending time with and especially love being involved in their school and sporting events.

   Butch joined the Community Education Foundation on June 29, 2009. In the short time he has been here he has made great strides in his effort to build the Community Education Foundation by enhancing programs already in place, as well as developing new programs that will benefit the students and faculty of the Council Bluffs Community School District.
